Focusing on the lives of a group of friends and brothers in Los Angeles in the 90’s, Boyz n the Hood tells the story of brotherhood and growing up in a close knitted yet dangerous community.
Boyz n the Hood highlights the impact and danger of gun crime as over the course of two weeks, the protagonist character Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.) see’s his relationship with his father, girlfriend and best friend change drastically. Living in a neighbourhood where police helicopter searches are the lullabies that put you to sleep and visits from the police are regular occurrences, viewers are invited to see the influence of gun crime and police treatment in America.
Whilst deep and thought provoking, this film still maintains humorous qualities with its witty lines and also exhibits 90’s style and fashion to it’s best! A definite must see!
