If you’re new to the night, or one of the friendly faces we see on a regular basis, we can’t wait to see you all every Tuesday at The Green Door Store.
If you are new to the night and new to Brighton, here’s some cool things to expect on your first outing with us:
1. ABOUT US
We started 4 years ago simply to try and create a night for people with a similar taste in music to our own, and we’re so lucky to carry on sharing some amazing music with you all, and always trying to give you a musical talking point, whether it’s that brand new Kanye track, that classic Cypress Hill banger you remember as a kid, or that Kaytranada track you thought you’d never hear played out anywhere, we aim to play music that you won’t hear anywhere else, or played by anyone else.
2. MUSIC POLICY
We’re a Hip-Hop night that plays Funk, Soul, Disco and other cool bit and pieces.
We’re talking from the classics of Biggie, Run-DMC and Dr. Dre, to the current hits of Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, to looking at the future with leftfield beatmakers like Kaytranada, Mura Masa and Tom Misch.
Sprinkle in the foundations laid out by Earth, Wind and Fire, The Jackson 5, Cheryl Lynn and Luther Vandross, with a nod to the UK scene with Roots Manuva, Skepta and all those classic instrumentals you used to play on your phone in the park at school… and you’ve only scratched the surface.

3. CROWD
We genuinely love our crowd. Like, they’re actually the best.
We’re so humbled that we have lots of familiar faces come by week after week to join us simply because of our shared love of Hip-Hop music and its offshoots.
Everyone who comes through is a fan of great music and open to hearing new things, and the energy we get from you all week after week is totally amazing.
There is no better atmosphere than ours, and no friendlier and happier crowd than ours, so if you’re new don’t be afraid to geek out at your favourite Kendrick track with someone you don’t know, and don’t be afraid to come over and say hi to us whilst we’re DJing, you’re part of our family when you step in the dance.
Without you, there is no us, so we are eternally grateful for your support.
4. FREE DONUTS
A nod to one of our all-time favourite beatmakers, the legendary Hip-Hop Producer J Dilla (whose favourite food was donuts, and released his final album entitled “Donuts” in 2006 before passing away), we hand out FREE Donuts every night, so make sure you’re at the front come 1am to grab some round treats!
5. SPECIAL GUESTS
We’ve been lucky enough to make some incredible friends since we started 4 years ago, and previously we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming artists like Kaytranada, Danny Brown, Action Bronson, Oddisee, 9th Wonder, Rapsody, Knxwledge, Blu & Exile, Shash’u, Elaquent and even De La Soul stopped by! So in short, you never know who’s going to show up at Donuts!
